The New Health Plan- What Exactly Will It Do?

As of late, there have been a lot of heated discussions and talk about who the health care reform will help, and how it will effect Americans. Although many are opposed to this health care reform, the true is that this plan will help many Americans who are currently trying to survive each day without any health care coverage.

The first group that this plan will help will be those adults who are low income who can’t afford health insurance. This group of American’s is one of the groups that the current system does not accommodate. Basically Medicaid, which currently covers the children of these lower income adults and of course those that are pregnant will now cover low income adults as well.

Another group that will be assisted with the new health plan are college and high school students. The new plan allows for these individuals to remain under the medical coverage of their parents until the age of 26. This will allow these individuals to get themselves situated in life before having to not only pay back their student loans and find employment, but also pay for medical coverage.

Third, those with health troubles will be assisted under the new plan as they will not be forced to exist without an insurance policy simply because they have been diagnosed with a severe disease or sickness. While this won’t actually take effect till the year 2014, those who have been refused health insurance because of their sicknesses bear a fresh hope.

While this plan has a lot of faults as well as benefits it is important to look at who will be helped by such a health care plan. Just because some of us are lucky enough to have health insurance coverage it is important to remember that it is very easy to become one of those with a serious health issue or loss of employment that could leave anyone of us struggling to find health insurance coverage.

Health Coverage Costs At An All Time High

Many individuals have become increasingly aware that health insurance is completely out of their reach. With the cost of health care skyrocketing to an unbelievable high, we have to wonder, how can we afford this? Not only are we reaching deep in our pockets as a nation, we are reaching, struggling and dying for these costs.

High health care costs are debilitating for many. But just as big a problem is the fact that many don’t understand how health insurance components work and how we can make them work for us. Many don’t understand the deductible system, and how or when it resets itself. Many can’t describe the difference between a PPO and an HMO. The expenses alone are enough to distract us, but the fact that there doesn’t seem to be a place to go to sort it all out and get clear answers is even worse.

As humans, we understand that drugs and medical equipment need to be tested. We get that procedures are going to be pricey, but we also know that we are paying more than what should be required. Many of us have been blindsided, and insurance companies seem to be profiting very nicely from all of our struggles. More Americans are being treated with antidepressants than ever before. The amount of prescriptions that are subscribed is far from comprehensible.

The amount of new drugs being produced is almost laughable. Do the same ingredients really need so many different names? Escaping these new medications is nearly impossible. All one must do is turn on a TV, listen to a radio or surf the internet; there will likely be an advertisement for the latest personality change in pill form. Each drug comes with a list of possible side effects that will probably, in the end, cost more of our dollars just to treat the new conditions we have acquired from taking them.

It is no secret that millions of Americans are struggling to take care of their bodies both mentally and physically. We have let this necessity slip right through our unsuspecting hands. Paying for health care is no longer a choice; for many of us, it simply is not an option. Undoubtedly, we will continue to struggle. As for the middle class and the poor, it seems we have all accepted that if we cannot pay for our health care in a traditional way, we will be paying for it with our lives.

Health Care Coverage For Students

Students are being considered in health care planning. There is discussion regarding further tax credits and personal health savings accounts to allow students to save so they can get their own insurance. A annual $5000 tax credit for employees has been proposed.

It is hard to tell whether such a proposal would get anywhere and what exactly the impact of such a plan would be for students. The HCTC is already out there on the table and that is something that helps many parents be able to provide quality health care to their student children as they are off getting their education. The truth is that many larger universities already have a student health insurance plan and use that as part of the calculation to come up with your entire health insurance costs.

The physicians and other healthcare providers at the school clinics are experienced and have a depth of knowledge that makes them able to care for almost any healthcare situation. For some reason people seem to think these providers are beginners or not very experienced, this is not the case. For those who are uncomfortable with those providers there are private companies, such as Cardinal Healthcare and Assurant, who offer health insurance plans to students. These companies like to see a clean heath history and a good work background and really like those who are self employed.

But the catch is to research and find the best health care plan takes time and most who are self employed lack the time to do this. Especially with studying, tests and classes to attend. Some students would delay seeking health care when they need it due to the focus of going to school. But if there is really a health problem, these students must go to a doctor.

The health care industry understands this and will do everything they can to make sure that the process of finding a plan is not too time consuming and burdensome. They want to make sure that the plan is accessible and is the right fit for your health care needs as a student who may be self employed or only able to hold down a part time job.

Getting By With No Health Insurance

There are quite a number of people struggling with a particular worry as they go through their daily duties. These are the folks not covered by any health insurance plan.

It’s a tough way to live, always worrying if someone is going to become ill or have an injury which would mean a hospital visit which would be expensive. Insurance coverage would be preferable if they could afford the premiums.

Most American’s who don’t have health insurance don’t go to the doctor unless they are dying, and then they don’t even try to get into a doctor’s office, instead they go directly to the hospital ER for treatment.

The reason this happens is physicians can’t afford to offer treatment if there’s not insurance coverage or there is no upfront payment. Therein is the problem, if a person can’t afford health insurance premiums they usually can’t pay for a doctor visit either.

There the emergency department serves as a last chance for those who are uninsured. Unfortunately by the time some people come into the ER they are more seriously ill than if they had been maintained by a physician over time. These conditions may have steadied or improved if they had been able to go to the doctor.
