Overseas education and scholarships no longer remain mere dreams for ambitious students now. But what happens to you, when you need urgent medical attention in foreign shores? You will need the international students insurance, of course!
This policy is ideal for overseas students who live in a regulated budget. This insurance policy conditionally remits all medical expenditures incurred by a student during the overseas studentship tenure. However, the overseas student is granted the lucrative insurance cover only if the claim adheres to certain exclusionary clauses.
An injury or ailment will not qualify for insurance cover if the related medical document is not provided to the company within 3 months of treatment. This clause judges the necessity and urgency of the treatment. The policy does not extend medical benefits for free treatments, or for treatments that incur exorbitant expenditures. A medical expenditure must be validated and prescribed by a physician to qualify for insurance cover.
Medical treatments that are of an unnecessary nature are not covered by the international students insurance. This would immediately exclude any operations or treatments for cosmetic modifications. It also includes treatments undertaken for scientific study or in the pursuit of any experimental objective.
Expenses incurred from unnecessary medical treatments, like cosmetic and beautification surgeries are not offered insurance cover. Financial benefits of the insurance policy are also denied to treatments taken for scientific research and experiment. Expenditure incurred during availing treatment without a doctor’s prescription is not remitted by the insurance policy. So, avoid consulting quacks or indulging in self-treatments.
The insurance policy does not extend its financial cover to treat students who were injured while consciously violating the law. Injuries sustained in military or civil strife, or while pursuing activities detrimental to the state are not extended financial benefits by the policy. Injuries incurred in conscious violation of curfew or police prohibition orders are not granted financial cover for treatment.
You are also not advised to demand insurance cover for injuries sustained in pursuit of adventures sports. High risk sports automatically disqualify any insurance cover for medical expenses incurred. If such activities are likely, riders that cover sports and hazardous activities may be added on to some policies at the time of purchase.
Regular diagnostic check-ups do not qualify for insurance cover, unless in connection with a disease/ illness. Medical and substance abuse, and alcoholism treatment expenditures are also to be borne by the policyholder. These are some basic clauses that would disqualify any application for insurance cover for international students.
