How To Purchase A Cheap Health Insurance

Growing in a place wherein you were already introduced into something since you were small will make you aware about that thing. Like for example any appliances in your house. Let’s just say that not everyone can have that stuff in their house. And then you went to this place that has this thing and then you are the only one who knew how to operate and make it work. Thus, lucky for you. But in my case, it is the word insurance!

My father was a health insurance agent. He would always tell me about the good things one can get when he/she enrolled for a health insurance plan. At first, I was kinda confused if how this ‘insurance’ can do him/her good. Until one day my eyes were opened. My brother and I were biking every morning during weekends outside the house. Because accidents are not predictable, we met an accident in our way back home. We were then brought to the hospital.

And that’s how it happened. I then realized that if ever my mom was not an employer of a health insurance company, may be we weren’t enrolled in that service. And may be we can’t afford to pay all the hospital bills that were charged to my dad. Thanks to it!

But then now I’m still asking my self why there are still other people who are not in this kind of service. May be they don’t know anything about health insurance plan. Then if you are one of them, let me tell you about what I know.

If my memory serves me well, I have read from one of my searches that employers now offer a health insurance to its employees. So, if your employer offers you some insurance plan, then don’t doubt if you’ll take it or not. Because this thing is for free and it is also a great privilege to you as a working man.

Moreover, there are also some employers who do not offer any insurance to their employees. But, you should not be sad. Because, there are those cheap health insurance out there that I am pretty sure you can afford. You just need to find the best one that would fully suit you best!

Cheap health insurance plans are just available out there. So, even if you have a low income and can’t afford to have one, you can actually enroll to any state-subsidized insurance that would give you a free-check-up at public clinics. If ever you can’t pay right away, they will still allow you.

If you are just really willing to find those best cheap health insurance out there, you’ll be able to see one that does not only brings you joy but also satisfaction. So, why not get one now?

Know the Facts About Cobra Insurance Extension

With double digit unemployment rates and an economy that is not showing signs of recovery any time soon, many laid off American workers are dealing with not only the loss of income, but the loss of health insurance coverage. For anyone, but especially those with a family, this can be quite devastating. The good news is that the government requires that employers offer continuing coverage through the COBRA insurance plan.

It is always best to take advantage of this health insurance benefit if it is available. A lapse in coverage may result in difficulties being added to a new plan in the future. In addition, there is no way to predict the occurrence of accidents or illness that might debilitate you or a dependant.

Who Qualifies?

The COBRA insurance extension provides supplemental health insurance that fills the gap between coverage due to unemployment. Your last employer is required to provide this option. You will qualify if you have had hours reduced and become a part-time employee ineligible for the employer’s health insurance benefit, laid off, or terminated for any reason other than gross misconduct. Insurance coverage extends to all dependants who were previously on your policy.

If you have been without a job for some time, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) provides extended COBRA benefits to anyone who lost employment in the period between September 2008 and February 2009. If you are still without employment now, you could now be eligible to receive health insurance with your last employer’s plan.

The Cost of COBRA Insurance Extension

Be aware that after separation from your employer, you will have to pay the entire health insurance premium out of your own pocket. However, there is some good news. For one, the cost is often less expensive than acquiring an individual insurance plan. The second piece of good news is that the federal government offers a subsidy to those who cannot afford the premium, up to 65%.

What You Need to Know After Losing Your Job

The responsibility of reporting a layoff or termination is up to the employer. They have 14 days to do so. Eligibility for COBRA insurance extension is determined by a number of factors including the size of the employer, the circumstances of separation, and many other rules and regulations. It may be helpful to use the services of a consultation company to help you sort through the details.

You should also be aware that there are time limits in place. There is a 60-day period in which the separated employee can decide whether or not to receive continued health insurance coverage. After that, you will have 45 days to pay the initial premium.

There are also specific regulations from the health insurance provider as to how and when claims for extended coverage are filed. The insurance company may deny benefits. You are allowed to appeal the denial within 60 days. Because the health insurance provider often carries numerous plan stipulations, you may want to obtain assistance when dealing with the company.

There are many rules, regulations, and stipulations that apply to COBRA insurance extension benefits but there are also resources available to make the process easier. Look into the options today and don’t be left without health insurance.

Does Your Health Insurance Need an Insurance Policy?

UnitedHealth, one of the country’s largest insurers, has introduced a new kind of policy that insures your health insurance policy. That’s something, huh? Insurance for your insurance.

The New York Times reports that UnitedHealth has named the new product Continuity. One company official stated that it is designed to allow you to keep your health insurance for the future, for a very modest premium.

Let’s list a few red flags that go up. Continuity won’t protect you against your premiums increasing as you get older. The premiums for Continuity will increase over time. You have to qualify for Continuity just like regular coverage, and you may be denied based on your health status. This won’t help you get coverage if you have a pre-existing health condition. Most states have guaranteed renewability, which means an insurer can’t cancel your policy anyway if you become sick or get injured. This coverage costs as much as 20 percent of your health insurance premium.

At first glance, it just doesn?t seem like this product is worth anything. An insurance broker interviewed by the Times admitted Continuity was of limited appeal, but it could be useful for some. For example, the broker mentioned, Continuity could be a good option for, someone who expects to work on contract for employers that offer group health insurance benefits but who anticipates gaps in that coverage.

Is Continuity really a health insurance plan? No its not, as reported in the Times article. And if not, then what’s the point? Since most states already cover what it is protecting, then apparently for most of us will there will be no need for it. Those looking for that extra bit of comfort regarding their insurance will have to decide for themselves whether Continuity is for them.
