Amazing Foods That Really Benefit You

Over the years, we have seen fad diets come and go, claiming benefits ranging from detoxification, to weight loss, and increasing your energy levels. However, they are just that – fads. Although a number of them indeed produce their claimed outcomes, their main drawback is that they are only effective during the course that they are taken.

Because a number of them are very restrictive, you may have a hard time adhering to them, and simply revert to your old ways. Hence, it is often a wiser decision to follow a simple yet effective healthy diet plan that is loaded with traditional foodstuffs.

For a diet to be considered healthy, it has to contain the appropriate amount of calories and the right kinds of food items. Experts recommend reducing the total amount of energy from fat in the diet and shift from saturated to unsaturated fats. While carbs do contribute to weight gain, it is unwise to omit it entirely from your diet. Don’t forget that the human brain’s primary food source is glucose which can only be taken from carbs. They also recommend consuming slow burning carbs rather than simple carbs. You should also get essential amino acids from both meat and plant-based sources. Incorporate fruits, vegetables, beans, cereals, and various nuts into your diet too.

As we pointed out in the first paragraph, it is a good idea to add traditional food items into your meals. Maybe you are asking, what are traditional foods? Essentially, traditional food are food which are locally grown and harvested from nature using wholly organic methods, without genetic alterations and have been enjoyed for several generations. Traditional foodstuffs are not prepared using industrial methods and in most cases not distributed or sourced abroad. The best sources for these food items are from your neighborhood market.

To better understand what traditional foods are, let us elaborate on them using examples. Those who follow a traditional diet plan prefer taking in sustainably-raised, organic eggs from pastured hens. They also make use of bones to make flavorful broths instead of using pre-packed ones. They also consume nettle leaves which are organically grown. This herb has several species but the one that is edible is called the stinging nettle (Urtica dioica), which have stinging hairs on its leaves and stems, hence the name. These stings can cause local irritation hence you need to wear protective clothing when picking them. Then again, they are worth the effort because nettle is rich in vitamins A and B, minerals, histamine and serotonin. Soaking the leaves in water or cooking will deactivate its stinging chemicals. Although they are a bit cumbersome to get and prepare, nettle plants are loaded in vitamins A, C, iron, potassium, manganese, and calcium. Nettle leaf is likened in flavor and texture to spinach, and can be prepared as pesto, soup, or paired with polenta.

Taking in traditional foods has a lot of benefits. For starters, they are always nutrient-dense. Secondly, you are assured that they are not genetically altered to look plump, or to yield more, or carry harmful synthetic pesticides or herbicides that are associated with ill-health. Third, they are packed with flavor. Third, buying traditional foods supports smaller, family farms. Finally, being a supporter of traditional food diets is you taking an active role in promoting humane and eco-friendly strategies to food production.

How To Win Health And Influence Doctors

When asked to choose between good health and great wealth, most individuals would pick good health. However when asked to define “health,” many would have trouble putting into words what this concept means to us. For some of us health might mean lack of illness, disease and pain. Sometimes to some health means being symptom free. For other individuals good health might mean a greater positive state of being, including strong bones and teeth, great body and eyes, strong muscles, appropriate weight, and much more.

One thing we all agree on is we want good health. But this goal may be difficult to reach with a health system focused primarily on treatment, rather than prevention of illness and disease. Though we have extensive research about the illnesses of the body and treatment of symptoms, what have we studied about creating wellness within the body to prevent health problems before they happen?

In the study of heart patients for example, heart bypasses and angioplasty generally do not address the underlying cause of the heart condition or problem. Many surgeries generally treat the existing problem which can return if the person doesn’t also make a lifestyle change in their daily activity. When patients make comprehensive lifestyle changes consistent with a healthy heart and overall wellness, most patients have a good chance of improving their overall health.

Many times a patient is hospitalized with an end-stage illness that has taken years to develop. During previous years the person has eaten donuts, salami, french fries and ice cream every day. The patient may ask, “What’s wrong with me, Doc?” The doctor replies, “I don’t know, we’ll have to run more tests.”

The reality is that we can look at the whole person and his or her lifestyle over the years, and the illness will be written all over the body. Wouldn’t it make more sense to study what causes the body to be healthy? Unfortunately, only 20 percent of today’s research is spent on preventative health care. Part of the problem might be that it is harder to study prevention than it is to study treatment for illness and disease.

Research examines the factors that help keep the body healthy are becoming increasingly certain of the significance of the mind/body connection as a critical component in health care. This factor is an important reason why many patients are turning to chiropractic health care by chiropractors as part of their health building strategies as opposed to medical care that treats the disease.

Chiropractic doctors works directly with the mind/body connection for better health. The brain contains all the information to run the body correctly. The nervous system is a channel of nerves from the brain to each tissue cell in the body. All of us understand the function of the skull in protecting the brain and other internal structures. In similar style, the spinal column covers and protects the nervous system from outside damage.

We understand brain functions can be affected unless we keep it safe and free from serious trauma. The same is true for the spine and proper nervous system function. When the spine is traumatized and the spinal cord becomes severed, the body can become paralyzed because the brain can no longer communicate with the rest of the body. This principle also applies when trauma to the spine is on a smaller scale, resulting in misalignment of spinal bones and pressure on nerve function. Spinal misalignment results in a partial communication breakdown, leading to an incomplete connection between mind and body. When this happens, the body loses much of its ability to maintain health.

In addition, lifestyle factors are important in building optimal health. Most of us understand that we need proper rest, proper nutrition, exercise and a positive mental attitude. Unfortunately we may not fully understand the importance of a properly functioning nervous system and spinal column. Building health from within the body is the ultimate path we all must discover for ourselves. It is not something a doctor can give us especially when they are focusing on disease. It is something we give ourselves because healing and health are natural states, and we have the power to control our decisions regardless of the rest.

It was once said by the developer of chiropractic BJ Palmer, “In the future, chiropractic will be valued for its preventative qualities as much as for relieving and adjusting the cause of many problems.” The future is now because chiropractic care is no longer an alternative care but the mainstream choice of millions who have turned to chiropractic doctors for natural health and wellness care. Many chiropractic doctors including the best chiropractors at New Century Spine Centers of San Diego are now covered by many insurance companies.

Doctors of chiropractic are committed to educating their patients about healthy lifestyle and their patients express appreciation for it. To learn more, those interested in getting a special report can go to www.SanDiegoBackPainTreatment.com for more information. We need to be involved with our health by asking the right questions and beginning our own quest to discover just what “good health” truly is.

Catuaba Bark Extract: Lower Stress

A large amount of confusion exists today regarding the actual species of tree that is harvested in Brazilian forests and sold around the world as “catuaba.” Experienced Brazilian harvesters will refer to two species: a “big catuaba” and a “small catuaba.” The confusion thickens when relating these trees to approved botanical species names. “Small catuaba” is Erythroxylum catuaba (A. J. Silva ex. Raym.-Hamet – the name was accepted in 1936), which grows 2-4 m tall and sports yellow-to-orange flowers and, in Brazil, is referred to as catuaba. “Big catuaba,” in the mahogany family, is Trichilia catigua (A. Juss.), which grows 6-10 m tall, has cream-colored flowers and – in Brazil – is referred to as catigu and angelim-rosa.

Moreover, three other (unapproved) botanical names for catuaba are used incorrectly in herbal commerce today: Juniperus brasiliensis (which is thought to refer to “small catuaba”), and Anemopaegma mirandum and Eriotheca candolleana, which are completely different species altogether. Anemopaegma is a huge tree in the Bignonia family, growing to 40 m tall and called catuaba-verdadeira in Brazil. This species of tree is now harvested and exported out of Brazil by inexperienced or unethical harvestors (resulting in the incorporation in herbal products sold in the U.S. today) as just “catuaba.”

The catuaba tree is a small tree with orange and yellow flowers. It produces an oval-shape fruit that is not edible. The catuaba tree belongs to the genus erythroxylum, which contains several species from which cocaine is derived.

Clinical studies on catuaba also have shown results related to its antibacterial and antiviral properties. A 1992 study indicated that an extract of catuaba (Erythoxlyum catuaba) was effective in protecting mice from lethal infections of Escherichia coli and Staphlococcus aureus, in addition to inhibiting HIV significantly.

The study found that the pathway of catuaba’s anti-HIV activity stemmed (at least partially) from the inhibition of HIV absorption into cells, and suggested that catuaba had potential against opportunistic infections in HIV patients. A U.S. patent was granted (in 2002) to a group of Brazilian researchers for a catuaba bark extract (Trichilia catigua).

According to Dr. Meira Penna, catuaba “functions as a stimulant of the nervous system, above all when one deals with functional impotence of the male genital organs . . . it is an innocent aphrodisiac, used without any ill effects at all.” In Brazil it is regarded as an aphrodisiac with “proven efficacy” and, in addition to treating impotence, it is employed for many types of nervous conditions including insomnia, hypochondria, and pain related to the central nervous system (such as sciatica and neuralgia).

For generations, indigenous people have used catuaba bark not only as an aphrodisiac but also for many health benefits. It has been used to lessen pain, improve memory, calm anxiety and alleviate fatigue, among other benefits.

In the last several years, its popularity has grown in the North American herbal market, with various products (especially libido formulas) now available in health food stores. Catuaba is also showing up in other formulas for depression, stress and nervous disorders. (The jury’s still out as to which species is being sold, however!) Interested consumers should seek a reputable manufacturer and product – with a verified plant source and botanical species for the herbal ingredient being sold.

Virus Bacteria Outbreak and MMS or Miracle Mineral Supplement

Miracle Mineral Solution is what its called. Is it all that, some miracle mineral that when used in the recommended solution helps the healing process?

MMS or miracle mineral solution is a diluted form of sodium chlorite. This common mineral has been used for many years to purify water.

How did all this information about MMS come about? Jim Humble found that when used with an activator, that MMS is an effective treatment for Malaria. It’s low cost and ease of use make it the miracle that they call it.

MMS is the activated sodium chlorite. You activate with citric acid, lemon juice, or vinegar. This starts the process, and the release of the detoxifying miracle.

Once you mix the sodium chlorite with the activator you will notice the taste. It is strong, to say the least. Mix it with water, or apple juice without added vitamin C. Drink with a straw to diminish tasting it.

When you take MMS make sure you read the recommended protocol and not take too much of it. This is tested and has worked for many others. Follow the directions.

If you are interested in reading stories about using MMS you should be able to find some of the forums that discuss using MMS. There are doctors who recommend it as an alternative treatment. Curezone has a forum for this topic.

MMS, is it really a miracle mineral, or just another hype? I guess it depends on who you ask. Many have used it with great success when other treatments have failed.

Ending the Cycle of Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is an issue for many people. Most of the time we just struggle through the pain, and our mind tries to block out as much as it can. But chronic pain can take away our precious energy.

What causes this low grade pain, and how do we get rid of it? This is a billion dollar question, and believe me we have every player in this game ranging from drug companies, practitioners, and food manufacturers to subtle energy practitioners.

One direction the subtle pain relief researchers have suggested is the connection between nutrition and chronic subtle pain. Often the holistic based recommendations for treating subtle, chronic pain combines many therapies, including acupuncture, yoga, detoxification, and nutrition.

In a study conducted at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, a team of health care professionals treated chronic low back pain using naturopathic practices. The treatment included deep breathing exercises, acupuncture, and dietary supplementation such as omega 3 fatty acids, calcium, and magnesium.(1)

Half the group was treated with conventional physiotherapy methods and half with naturopathic methods. What they found in this treatment of chronic low back pain is that those treated with naturopathic methods had a greater reduction in pain than those treated by the conventional physical therapy modalities.

When we delve into the nutritional value of minerals such as magnesium, we find that there are over 300 body functions that are dependent on magnesium. Unfortunately half of our population is deficient in magnesium. Low magnesium levels can lead to many health issues, such as muscle cramps and chronic pain. (2)

There is no measure of how long it takes to create a condition such as chronic pain, and likewise there is no magic bullet that will lift us from its clutches. Perhaps if we focus on some of the more basic elements, such as diet and nutrition, we might see progress in our plea for pain release. Magnesium, for example, is easy to introduce into the body through pleasant applications such as magnesium oil or a warm, nutritional magnesium bath.

TMJ – More than a Pain in the Neck

Who doesn’t love chocolate? OK, some of us but not a good friend of mine – he loves them so much he comes up with new inventive ways to eat them so as not to get bored.

His wife, however, does not. This is because she suffers from TMJ, or Temporomandibular Joint syndrome. The cold of the frozen candy is a trigger for symptoms. Always interested in the ailments of people and how to cure them, I asked my friend’s wife to provide more detail about her condition.

I’m not generally surprised by the symptoms described, as I’ve performed much research on this condition to create my TMJ program. Some symptoms though, are surprising.

The acronym TMJ refers to the temporomandibular joint. This is what some people mistakenly refer to as a disorder, however, TMJ syndrome is actually a disorder of the joint.

The TMJ is responsible for allowing us to talk chew and yawn. They are located on either side of the face in front of the ears. TMJs are made up of blood vessels, nerves, bones and muscles.

You can find the joint by placing a finger in front of your ear and then by opening and closing the mouth. The jawbones actions are to open and close the mouth, act in a gliding action which allows the mouth to open wide and for acting as a hinge.

TMJ disorder occurs when the joint becomes eroded and slides out of alignment. Certain medical conditions can also cause damage to the cartilage in the joint. A trauma or injury can also cause a disorder.

TMJ syndrome can also be caused when the joint gets over used. When your dentist tells you not to grind your teeth, he or she is also referring to TMJ in addition to tooth erosion. Some people have this condition from birth due to over improper development of the joint.

Triggers which can bring on symptoms include: grinding one’s teeth, drinking or eating cold things, lack of sleep, poor neck and face posture, exposure to cold air and stress.

TMJ disorders affect women more then men, with the total population affected about 5-15%. Some experts say the number is higher due to cases which go undiagnosed.

Symptoms include: Headache, neck pain, difficulty opening and closing the mouth, pain or tenderness in the jaw, earache, pain in the face and a clicking sound when opening or closing the mouth.

The comforting news is that in most cases, no surgery is required. If the cause is something you can correct (i.e., teeth grinding or poor neck posture) you and your doctor/dentist can take steps to correct the problem.

In my friend’s wife’s case it was all about temperature. Eating cold food or drinks or direct exposure to cold air or air-conditioning were triggers for her condition. Thanks to my TMJ program she was able to learn good habits to bring about relief to this disorder.

In fact, I’ve received so many good reviews of my program, I’m overwhelmed by the reviews. If you haven’t found relief from TMJ syndrome and are looking for an answer, please try my program. If headache is a common symptom for you, I would also try my Migraine and Headache program.
