Take the Hang Ups and Lows out of your Hang Over

New Years Eve is one party night of the year. Many consume a lot of alcohol on this national holiday. Do we think of how we will feel the day after?

Most of us do not know the affect that alcohol and partying has on our body. Consuming alcohol depletes our vitamins and minerals. Then to make matters worse it messes with our digestive tract, making it more difficult to replenish our vitamins.

There are steps you can take to bring your body back into balance. One of my favorites is Kombucha Tea. Never heard of it? It is not an energy drink, but most everyone who drinks it says it improves their energy. It is not a nutritional supplement, but it is rich with vitamins, enzymes, and healthy acids.

When you drink Kombucha here is what you get: Enzymes, Acetic acid, Carbonic acid, Folic Acid, Gluconic acid, Glucuronic acid, L(+) Lactic, Usnic acid, Amino acids (various), Hydroxy acids (various), Vitamin B1 (Thiamin), Vitamin B2(Riboflavin), Vitamin B3 (Niacin, niacinamide), Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine), Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin, cyanocobalamin), Vitamin C (from Lactic acid).

Your digestive tract goes stagnant from alcohol, rich foods, even stress. You can give your body the assistance it needs to rebalance, for Kombucha restores your pH, helps in weight balance, gives you energy and brings balance to your body.

Here is another basic alcohol fact ” alcohol depletes our magnesium supply. Our what? Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in your body. You have heard all the hype about calcium, well you need magnesium to get the benefit from your calcium. When you drink you reduce the already depleted magnesium supply in your body.

When your magnesium level is low and your digestive tract is struggling you cannot absorb the nutrients, like magnesium, that is contained in your food. Another option is to increase the magnesium level through an IV like they do in the emergency room. Thats a little drastic. Try transdermal magnesium, like a magnesium bath, gel or oil applied to your skin.

There are over 300 enzyme functions that magnesium is needed to complete. Almost every part of your body needs magnesium. The world health organization states that about 75 percent of our population is deficient in this mineral. This affects your health, both physically and mentally!

You dont have to wait for a night out on the town to enjoy the restorative qualities of transdermal magnesium. In fact, you can sip on your Kombucha tea served in a champagne glass after your healthy soak.

Comparing Costs And Benefits Of Texas Health Insurance

In Texas, the unforeseen can happen at any time. You could have need for medical attention for whatever reason. However, if you don’t have health insurance in Texas to cover that, then you will be stuck holding the bill. To prevent that from happening, a Texas health insurance coverage plan is needed to pay for the costs of medical services. This would include prescription medicine, doctor visits and other related medical expenses.

Along with the price of groceries and other essentials, the cost of health insurance in Texas is also among the group of inflated costs. However, with a combination of the state government and insurance companies, they have been working to reduce health insurance costs. In the state of Texas, even though there are some places that are increasing in heath care, rates for Texas health insurance are surely not the highest. It is possible to find coverage for health insurance that is within your budget.

There is now health insurance in Texas that is offering dual insurance. You can get major medical insurance and disability insurance in one package. When getting major medical insurance, it can be used for things such as chronic illnesses, like asthma. With disability insurance, it can provide medical coverage when you can’t work due to a medical or health issue.

Generally speaking, individual health insurance plans in Texas are going to be a bit more expensive. However, there are still affordable options available if you know where to look. There is plenty of information available online to help you make an educated decision and get a quote on health insurance that you can afford.

The Internet offers a great way to virtually “shop” for insurance because you can compare and contrast the different plans offered as well as their premiums, deductibles and co-pays. It’s a very convenient way to find health insurance in Texas and make the most informed decision. The premium you choose will affect the type of coverage you receive and your out-of-pocket expenses. If you can afford them, higher premiums usually mean lower patient costs over the time you are covered. .

In addition to that, you can get information and compare on how each health insurance coverage in Texas operates. You can find out what’s included and what’s excluded. In all practicality, you should look for coverage for things what will apply to you. Don’t get anything that you won’t use. You would just be wasting money.

If you wanted to, you could even set up a savings account to defray the cost of medical incidentals. That’s one of the benefits of getting health insurance in Texas. Another one is that if you compare costs and benefits online, not only is it faster, it can be more efficient for you. You would not have to make an appointment to go out and see an insurance agent. Comparing costs and benefits online is great way to save time and money.

Do Weight Loss Pills Really Work?

With obesity at epidemic levels in the United States, more and more people are turning to weight loss pills in hopes of losing those extra pounds. With the New Year approaching, you can bet that these weight loss pills will be flying off of shelves. But do they actually work?

Most reputable companies put out decent products that work to some degree, but not to the extent most people think they do. In the early 90’s ephedra hit the market with a lot of fanfare. It promised to burn fat like no other compound. And for the most part, it lived up to that promise.

Unfortunately along with its fat burning strength, ephedra also made your heart race uncontrollably and was blamed for a few deaths as well. Needless to say ephedra has been banned by the FDA and is no longer available in stores.

Are there any other products that work?

Since ephedra was taken off the market, there really hasn’t been anything that rivals its weight loss power (save for possibly one).

Green tea and Hoodia are currently two of the most popular weight loss supplements in stores today. There have been mixed reviews on both, but Green tea has more scientific studies to back its claims. Never the less, they both fall far short of the fat burning power of ephedra.

There is however a promising natural substance that takes a different approach to weight loss by preventing fructose from converting to fat.

What’s the big deal about fructose?

Fructose may be the biggest cause of obesity in the United States today. Here’s a quote from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition:

“evidence that a marked increase in the use of HFCS, and therefore in total fructose consumption, preceded the obesity epidemic and may be an important contributor to this epidemic in the United States.”

Over the last thirty years manufacturers have been replacing sugar with high fructose corn syrup because of its cheap production costs. More and more products on supermarket shelves have high fructose corn syrups as an ingredient.

What is this new compound?

This all natural compound is derived from the roots of Scutellaria baicalensis and Heartwood of Acacia. There more common names are Chineses skullcap and “Black catechu”.

How does it work?

This natural compound works by substantially decreasing two key obesity markers TNFa and IL-6 circulating in the blood stream. These two cytokines are expressed in high levels in the chronically obese. These compounds have been shown to significantly decrease both of these obesity markers by inhibiting fat conversion from fructose pathways and down-regulating PPAR gene expression (fat accumulation) and up-regulating PPARa (fat breakdown) protein. To a lesser extent there is also a moderate down-regulation of lipoprotein lipase (which breaks down fat) on the gene level.

Subjects between the ages of 40 and 75 participated in an independent double blind scientific study conducted by scientists at JSS Medical Research, Inc., in Montreal, Canada. None of the participants were given any advice on dieting or exercise and typically this age group has the most difficult time at losing weight.

The results were quite impressive. Subjects taking the natural compound lost an average of 7 percent of their bodyweight, while those not taking the natural compound did not lose any weight at all.

Combined with a proper diet and exercise program, one can only imagine what the results might have been.

If weight loss is your goal, these natural compounds show a lot of promise. However, do not expect miracles. A sensible diet and exercise program is always the best way to keep the weight off.

Methods to For a Better Child Brain Development

When and how to shape a child’s brain development is crucial. Many propose computer programs. But experts have the opinion that it would be useless to do it once the child’s brain development has actually stopped.

An excellent time to help with a child’s brain development is even before the baby is born up until it reaches three years of age. This is the best time to have the most impact on the child’s brain development and its ability to learn for the rest of their life.

It may appear unusual to begin even before a child is able to read, write or reason, but there are studies to back this and it has shown that all these skills begin to develop even before a child goes to kindergarten.

Recently there was a research study conducted that was published in Developmental Medicine and Child Neurology [Vol. 42: 174-181], where doctors used 56 babies as their subject, and they were as young as 5 days old. Their diets were filled with omega 3 fish oil fatty acids and DHA.

The set of babies that were given DHA showed significantly higher cognitive and motor skills, as compared to the other set of babies (those without fish oil supplements) based on the “Mental Development Index.”

The doctors then made a conclusion that a dietary supply of fish oil with DHA at an early age is a major factor in determining improved performance and mental development among full term babies.

Research conducted among premature babies, which was published in the Clinics of Perinatology, [Vol. 22(1):157-75], discovered that even premature babies can also have benefits from fish oil. After they were supplemented with omega 3 fatty acids and DHA, a remarkable improvement was seen in their cognitive and visual development.

These are just a few of the many research findings that have proven the secret to a child’s brain development is providing it with enough omega 3 and DHA.

DHA consists of rich long-chain omega 3 in the brain tissue. Roughly 95% of these lipids can be found during birth and develops to be a part of these tissues even inside the uterus and continues during the first year of life.

So it does make sense for pregnant women to consume more fish and get a supplement of fish oil. This is a good way to build a good foundation on a child’s brain development from the very start and will surely be a big factor to determine its intelligence and ability to learn in the future.

After that, be sure that you breast-feed during the first year. High amounts of omega 3’s can be found in breast milk.

A report was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and it demonstrates that even small amounts of dietary fish oil with DHA helps in increasing breast milk content. [Vol. 40, 780-785]

These findings on brain development persuaded my wife to use fish oil during pregnancy and lactation, and to give our children supplements of salmon oil while they were only six months old.

We would remove the oil from the capsules and place it in spoons then feed it to them. Now, we get comments on how smart they are and their good test scores can prove it.

However, the best part is they are happy and healthy children too. Give your kids fish oil and you will be happy you did.

Small Employers Seek Texas Health Insurance

For purposes of definition of health insurance in Texas, there is a difference between small employers and large employers according to state and federal mandates. For a small employer to be called just that, they will have to have no more than 50 employees that work full-time (actually 2 to 50 full-time employees). These employees that are defined as full-time must work at least 30 hours or more each week in order to qualify. That does not include temporary workers or seasonal workers.

With small employers, they are protected by some legal statutes. Some of them include coverage levels and increases in insurance rates. The thing with small employers is that with the health insurance law in Texas, they have to have the right amount of employees that are eligible for health insurance. It is not based on the number of total employees per say. With health insurance for small employers, it is mandatory that those eligible are offered health insurance coverage for themselves and their immediate families.

To help make it profitable when working with small companies, insurers will often require a certain percentage of employee participation before they’ll agree to cover the organization (usually 75% or greater). Depending on the frequently-changing regulations, there are not always minimum participation requirements before an insurer must cover small business and provide its employees with health insurance in Texas.

Very small companies may be required to get buy-in from 100% of their employees regarding participation before an insurer agrees to work with them on a group plan or they may be forced to choose an individual or family plan for their health insurance in Texas. Because of the high costs of health insurance in Texas, it is best for employees to be covered under a company group plan rather than an individual plan. This can be difficult for small companies with very few employees.

Fewer employees at a small company also means fewer choices in the type of coverage for employee health insurance in Texas. To keep their costs down, insurers will often require everyone be covered by the same plan rather than offer multiple levels of coverage and allowing employees to choose. This is unlike larger companies who offer more options to employees regarding insurance plans.

However, whether it’s a small employer or a large one, it is against the law to force a new employee to get health insurance in Texas in order to stay employed there. It is also against the law to single out any employee that can get health care coverage due to how old they are, medical history status or pre-existing conditions that they may have.

It is important that small employers follow the rules about health insurance in Texas. The small employer needs to know what is allowed and what is not allowed for their employees. To make sure that things are in order, they should consult their health insurance handbook or contact their health insurance representative. Having that in place will make things much smoother when it’s time for employees to use their health insurance. They need to make sure that they are providing the right kind of health insurance to their employees.

Fish Oil Used as Treatment for Psychosis

Fish oil for the treatment of psychosis has surely been the subject of so many researches.

A lot of scientists are really impressed by what they are now discovering, and most probably you will be too.

According to the Medline Plus online encyclopaedia, psychosis is defined as the “loss of contact with reality. This typically includes delusions (false ideas about what’s taking place or who one is) and hallucinations (seeing or hearing things which aren’t there).”

Psychosis is a very general definition of a mental disorder and it can include conditions like bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, hallucinations, dementia, unfounded fears, extreme excitement, illusions, abnormal emotions, confusion and delusions.

If you suspect that you have the above symptoms, do not worry right away and get a diagnosis. Take note that psychosis is a chronic illness and does not occur just immediately.

There can be many factors that may bring a person to psychosis. It may be attributed to the use of illegal drugs, alcoholism, or any condition that could cause the brain to be damaged, like a stroke or Alzheimer’s Disease.

Some people do not believe that the food that we eat has anything to do with psychosis. Well, that would just be like saying that junk food can sustain our health and make us live longer. That we know is just not possible.

What has the research found?

Fish oil has been found to give major health benefits according to the latest scientific studies, and it includes the treatment of psychosis, bipolar syndrome and depression.

The research conducted in the Journal of Affective Disorders reveal that “Major depressed subjects showed significantly lower total omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids?than minor depressed subjects and healthy controls.” (Vol. 26, No. 38, 35-46)

The implication: the more fish oil fatty acids you have in your diet, the less the chances are that you will be depressed.

There is another study that was conducted on subjects with major depressive disorders and it was published in the American Journal of Psychiatry. It says that “Highly significant benefits of the addition of the omega-3 fatty acid compared with placebo were found by week 3 of treatment.” (Vol. 159:477-479)

Meaning: in a matter of 3 weeks, fish oil can give you great health benefits.

Research conducted at the Harvard University was published in the Archives of General Psychiatry and it found that, “Omega 3 fatty acids were well tolerated and improved the short-term course of illness in this preliminary study of patients with bipolar disorder.” (Vol. 56 No. 5)

The implication: Fish oil helped improve the condition of bipolar disorder patients.

Additional research accounted in the American Journal of Psychiatry says, “The results of this study suggest that EPA may be a safe and effective form of monotherapy for women with moderately severe borderline personality disorder.” (Vol. 160:167-169)

The implication: Women with extreme personality disorders can benefit from fish oil.

The researchers in the department of psychiatry at the UK University of Sheffield also reported in the Journal of Affective Disorders that, “The findings [of their study] raise the possibility that depressive symptoms may be alleviated by omega 3 PUFA [polyunsaturated fatty acid] supplementation.” (Vol. 48(2-3):149-55)

In other words: A good supplement of high quality fish oil can reduce depression.

That’s the rundown ? short, sweet and to the point. The above researches should help you make your decision on using fish oil as treatment for psychosis and minor depressions.

Let the health benefits of fish oil speak for itself naturally.
